Your Tax Statement Explained

Tax Statements for the City of Morenci are generated twice a year.  They are commonly called the summer and winter bills due to their time of generation and due dates.  The summer billing cycle will begin on July 1st and the Winter billing cycle will begin on December 1st of each year.

STATE ED - State Education Tax is collected by the City of Morenci but sent to the Lenawee County Treasurer who forwards it to the State Education Department.
COUNTY OPER - This County Operating Tax is sent to the Lenawee County Treasurer who disperses it to assist in operating the county functions.
CITY TAX - This is the tax that funds city operations here in Morenci, MI.
ALS - This is an ambulance assessment stays in Morenci to contribute to EMS operation.
DEPT AGING - This Department of Aging tax is sent to the Lenawee County Treasurer who forwards it to the Department of Aging to assist in operating costs.
MED CARE - This tax is collected in Morenci and sent to the Lenawee County Treasurer who forwards to Lenawee Medical Care Facility (Nursing Home).
VETERANS' RELIEF - This tax is collected in Morenci and sent to the Lenawee County Treasurer who forwards it to the Veterans Relief Program.
LENAWEE INT SCH - This tax is collected in Morenci and sent directly to the Lenawee intermediate School District to help with operating costs.
SCHOOL DEBT - This tax is collected in Morenci and sent directly to Morenci Area Schools to help with operating costs and debt reduction.
SCHOOL OPER - This tax with be EXEMPT if the property is 100% Homesteaded and owner occupied.  The tax is collected in Morenci and sent to Morenci Area Schools.
Administration Fee - This fee goes to the City of Morenci to compensate for administration costs.
Penalty - If accrued due to late payment, the fee stays in the City Of Morenci.
Interest - If accrued due to late payment, the balance is split between all entities collecting tax on that billing cycle.
