OPEN HYDRANT FROM FIRE CALL ON EAST STREET NORTH CAUSING WATER DISCOLORATION
MORENCI, MI – On Sunday, December 29, 2019, the Morenci Fire Department responded to a fire call for service on East Street North. In responding to the fire call for service, the Morenci Fire Department opened a hydrant at the corner of East Union Street and East Street North. The hydrant disturbed sediment that was in the system, which is causing a reddish / cloudy look of water for users in the area.
The reddish / cloudy look of water is normal for a flush of a hydrant. The water is safe to drink and use during this time. If you are experiencing this discoloration of water, please run your water for some time to allow the water coloration to run out of the system.
The City of Morenci will be opening a few other hydrants in the area and those hydrants will be running at a rate of 8 to 10 gallons a minute. The goal of this is to flush any sediment out of the open hydrants, so that it doesn’t affect end-users, but that cannot be guaranteed. If continued coloration occurs with your water after a day, please contact the Morenci City Offices at (517) 458 – 6828.
