MORENCI POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPOND TO STANDOFF SITUATION AND ARREST ONE
MORENCI, MI – On Saturday, February 15, 2020, the Morenci Police Department responded to a call of malicious destruction of property in the 400 block of North Summit Street. It was suspected that an individual, identified as Donovan Cool (age 25), had been ramming his vehicle into vehicles owned by other individuals in the driveway at that residence.
After Cool rammed his car into the vehicles at the 400 block of North Summit Street, Cool then went to an apartment building in 300 block of North Summit Street and proceeded into a standoff with police by barricading himself in an upper apartment.
The standoff proceeded for three (3) hours ending around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2020. During the standoff, Cool broke out windows to the apartment, threw a lit propane canister at police, and threatened to catch the building on fire. After determining it was safe to enter, police then took Cool into custody after a short fight with him.
Cool was booked at the Lenawee County Jail for two (2) counts of malicious destruction to property, one (1) count of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, and three (3) counts of resisting and obstructing a police officer.
The Morenci Police Department were assisted by the Hudson Police Department, the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department, the Michigan State Police, and the Morenci Fire Department.
