MORENCI, MI – As snow falls on the City of Morenci, the Morenci Fire Department, in coordination with other departments in the city, has put together a plan to address Winter Storm Ion.

Morenci Fire Chief, Brad Lonis, announced late Saturday night that the Morenci Area EMS would be relocating to the Morenci Fire Department for the duration of the storm, so that the two agencies could response to fire and medical emergencies together.  The Morenci Fire Department also has access to snowmobiles if winds, which could reach up to 40 MPH, make it unbearable to respond to emergencies with traditional resources.

In addition to that, Chief Lonis announced that the Morenci Department of Public Works would be responding to fire calls inside and outside the city in conjunction with the Morenci Fire Department to provide snowplowing and salting, if needed.

Officials from the City of Morenci also urge residents to contact the Morenci Church of the Nazarene (751 Summit Street) if they are in need of a warming shelter.  With the projected weather coming, it is expected that the wind chill could be negative 20 to 40 the next few days.   The church has offered to allow individuals to come in from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, January 6 and Tuesday, January 7.  Please call (517) 458 – 7195 if you plan you take advantage of this.
