City of Morenci Water Test Results

On November 13, 2019, the City of Morenci was notified by EGLE that its water operator’s license (individual licensed to manage the water system for the City of Morenci) had lapsed on July 15, 2018 and that the water operator failed to renew his license. In addition, it was found by EGLE that the water operator had failed to take two (2) water samples required by EGLE and submit such by September 30, 2019. A notice was subsequently sent to you informing you of the City of Morenci’s plan to fix the issues. The notice referenced that test results would be taken and communicated to you. This notice serves as that communication.

Water Test Results

The City of Morenci outsourced the partial chemistry sample for testing to Paragon Laboratories out of Livonia, Michigan that EGLE required. The test results of the partial chemistry sample are outlined in the analytical results enclosed with this briefer. Results were significantly less than the max qualifier level of concern as established by EGLE for each contaminant tested.

A guide to read the results is as follows:

Result: Indicates the level detected for the individual parameter. This is referred to the Level Detected on an annual water quality report.

Units: Indicates the type of measurement used for the result of the individual parameter.

Reporting Limit: Indicates the minimum concentration of a contaminant of the individual parameter that would show up in a test.

Result Qualifier: Indicates the concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements that a water system must follow. This is referred to the Action Level on an annual water quality report.

Please note that the bacteriological results from December 2019 are also included with this briefer. Those tests are required to be ran once a month by EGLE of four (4) locations: Well 1, Well 2, Morenci City Offices, and Morenci Department of Public Works (DPW). The bacteriological results indicate if any e coli, colliform, or other bacteria colonies are present in the water. None were detected. If detected, the City of Morenci would immediately release a notice requiring you to boil your water to kill any found bacteria in the water.

For the safety of residents, the City of Morenci is running bacteriological results every two (2) weeks, which is above the requirements of EGLE. Any bad result would immediately be communicated to water customers.

To increase transparency with the community water system, the City of Morenci will be uploading Monthly Water Plant Operational Reports to the city website around the 15th of each month. These reports will include data on all and any water tests ran during the prior month. Please contact the Morenci City Offices at (517) 458 – 6828 if you have any questions.
