OPEN HYDRANT FROM FIRE CALL AND WATER TOWER MAINTENANCE CAUSING WATER DISCOLORATION
MORENCI, MI – On Monday, February 3, 2020, the Morenci Fire Department responded to a fire call for service on Skyline Industrial Drive. In responding to the fire call for service, the Morenci Fire Department opened a hydrant, which is causing a reddish / cloudy look of water for users in the area.
In addition to that, the City of Morenci’s Department of Public Works (DPW) conducted water tower maintenance on both water towers yesterday that was finished during the night that is coordinated with the City of Morenci’s SCADA project for the Water Treatment Plant.
Water users may be experiencing a reddish / cloudy look of water due to these two (2) events. This is normal for. The water is safe to drink and use during this time. If you are experiencing this discoloration of water, please flush your water through your toilet a few times.
The City of Morenci will be opening a few other hydrants in the area and those hydrants will be running at a rate of 8 to 10 gallons a minute. The goal of this is to flush any sediment out of the open hydrants, so that it doesn’t affect end-users, but that cannot be guaranteed. If continued coloration occurs with your water after a day, please contact the Morenci City Offices at (517) 458 – 6828.
