At the May 20 City Council meeting, the bid from Midwest Contracting, Inc. for the construction phase of the Stephenson Park Reactivation project was approved. The bid of $784,712.14 was $287.86 under the budgeted grant amount of $785,000.00. The project includes installing lighting, constructing a six-foot-wide walking path around the perimeter with accessibility features, updating the parking area, expanding the basketball court, adding a pickleball court, and installing two pavilions, picnic tables, benches, updated play equipment, site amenities, and landscaping. The City of Morenci plans to keep Stephenson Park open to visitors during the summer months. A construction timeline will be shared as the groundbreaking date approaches. The project is scheduled for completion by summer 2025.
