Press Release

Morenci, MI — The City of Morenci has been awarded a $50,000 Housing Readiness Incentive grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). This grant will support a comprehensive update to the City’s Master Plan.

The Housing Readiness Incentive Grant Program provides funding to implement actions that enhance housing supply and affordability. The City of Morenci will utilize this grant to engage a professional consultant who will offer technical assistance and facilitate public engagement. This update aims to develop long-term goals and objectives that address current housing and community needs and guide future growth.

“The funding comes at a crucial time, as our Master Plan expired in 2022,” said City Administrator Jeff Bell. “This grant enables us to align our planning efforts with the evolving needs of Morenci and prepare effectively for the future.”

“With recent insights from the Michigan Statewide Housing Plan Region K Action Plan and the Housing Study and Target Market Analysis from Housing Lenawee, we have a timely opportunity to update our Master Plan,” said Heather Sarnac, Community & Economic Development Director and the lead applicant for the grant. “The current data along with public input will help us refine our long-term goals.”

The city has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for consultants to assist with the Master Plan update. The RFP is available on the city’s website, with submissions due by October 21.
