City of Morenci Public Notice
Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Annual Water Service Line Notice
On November 14, 2024, the City of Morenci is mailing the Annual Water Service Line Notice to residents with water service lines identified as lead containing lines (LCL), galvanized previously connected to lead (GPCL), or where the lead status is currently unknown. If your service line has been confirmed as non-lead, you will not receive this notice.
In compliance with statewide regulations under the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act (1976 PA 399), revised in June 2018, all Michigan community water systems must notify owners and occupants of properties served by lead or GPCL service lines. Recent updates from the Federal Lead and Copper Rule also require annual notification for properties where the service line material is unknown, until it is confirmed that the line is lead-free. These rules define a lead service line (LSL) as any line containing lead in any section, whether owned by the water supply or the customer. This includes components with lead, such as goosenecks or pigtails.
To meet these requirements, the City of Morenci has been using a verification method known as potholing. This technique involves carefully boring a small hole in the ground to visually confirm the service line material. We will continue this work until all service line materials are fully identified.
