
The Morenci Fire Department is restocked with smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, available free of charge to all Morenci area residents. These detectors come with 10-year lithium batteries for long-lasting safety. To reserve a smoke detector and/or carbon monoxide detector, please call City Hall at (517)458-6828.

In recent days, there have been incidents of theft from unlocked vehicles during the night. So far, this has been occurring in the west end of the city. The Morenci Police Department advises all residents to take precautions by locking vehicles and refraining from leaving valuables inside. Due to a water line repair, S. East St. between Whitney Ave. and Oak St. will be reduced to one lane tomorrow, Wednesday, June 19, starting at 6:30 AM. The work is expected to be completed by 3:00 PM.


E. Congress St. between Maple Dr. and N. Summit St. will be closed through tomorrow, Wednesday, May 15.


The Department of Public Works is currently spraying weeds at Wakefield Park. Areas of impact will be marked with appropriate signage.


The Wakefield Park tennis courts are closed until further notice for resurfacing.

A message from DPW Supervisor, Ted Hutchison: A water force main has been compromised. The DPW is aware of the issue and is currently working on the repair. During this time, residents on the west end may experience water discoloration similar to when hydrants are flushed. The water is safe for drinking and use.

The last day of curbside brush pick-up is next Tuesday, October 24. Brush must be placed to the curb by 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Residents may discard brush anytime at the compost pile behind the Department of Public Works Facility located at 597 W. W. Main St. between Mill St. and North St. will be closed Saturday, October 7th, from 2:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The detour will utilize Mill St. and W. Due to the weather, tonight's Morenci Chamber of Commerce Cruise Night is canceled. It has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 5, from 5-7 p.m.

As of today, August 22, half of the water meters in the City of Morenci have been replaced with updated digital meters. There is no cost for the replacement, but water meter replacement is required.

Police Chief Donald Thompson is declaring a snow emergency from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, March 3.
During a snow emergency, parking on city streets is prohibited. Vehicles must be parked on private property or in a municipal parking lot.
